BALTIMORE, MD — June 6, 2018 — Diarcis is a recently launched social enterprise, a company that will engage in commerce and retail trade but with a social mission. As a tech company, their commerce model leverages the latest technologies in e-commerce to create online stores. Their goal is to create high-quality online stores selling niche products, but unlike many other e-commerce companies Diarcis has a social mission. They aim to create a ‘social incubator’ that uses the proceeds from sales to fund social innovations.
“We launched on June 1st, 2018 in Baltimore. We’re working hard and fast to kickstart all the stores we have planned so we can start our social incubation model.” Diarcis is hard at work, setting up targeted marketing campaigns on all the big social media platforms, hoping to drive up sales so it can fund its next big project.
Their goal? To form new businesses, ministries, non-profit organizations, charities, and public health solutions. Many start-ups rely on venture capital and investors. Oftentimes the major decisions for these startups are made by the investors. Diarcis is instead hoping to raise its own funds. The company aims to be completely independent of decisions from investors and large corporations.
The name “Diarcis” is Greek for ‘continuous’ or ‘durable’. A big part of the tech company’s mission is to mentor new social innovators who will carry forward the company’s mission of creating new companies and organizations that are financially self-sustaining and independent.
In the social incubation model at Diarcis, innovators hoping to use initial funding from Diarcis have to prove they can in the future run the company independently of Diarcis as the progenitor company. They also have to write a financially feasible plan on how to make their social innovation self-sustaining. Diarcis then hopes to spin each new project off as its own company or organization with independent leadership.
When orders are placed, Diarcis sends items from wholesale companies overseas directly to the consumer for most of its stores, skipping the normal middle-men companies and domestic inventory warehousing that normally add to overhead and drive up prices. “This gives us greater freedom to be able to set the prices on our products so that more of it can go to funding our social incubator in the future.”▪
